Mailcoach Email Platform Review 2023

Hey, this is Brandon. I’ve been using Mailcoach for my 9-to-5 job. I’d like to offer my thoughts on the Mailcoach Hosted Email Platform. Email marketing is an essential component of any online business, and finding the proper platform may make all the difference. In this review, I’ll go over the benefits and drawbacks of Mailcoach to help you decide if it’s a good fit for your needs.

The Pros:

1. User-Friendly Interface

Mailcoach offers an intelligent user interface that provides vital high-level information quickly and elegantly. Mailcoach’s user-friendly UI is one of its most notable characteristics -it makes using mailcoach a joy! Whether you’re an experienced email marketer or a beginner, the dashboard is simple to use. Email campaign creation and management becomes a breeze.

2. Open Source Flexibility

We use Mailcoach’s cloud service at my workplace, but you could install Mailcoach within your Laravel application for a modest yearly fee -covering updates. Installing Mailcoach would give a developer complete control over email marketing needs. With a lot of time and investment, you could tailor it to your exact demands, ensuring that it properly corresponds with your strategy and needs. This solution was not chosen because our company uses ActiveCampaign for complex email and marketing automations.

3. Deliverability and Segmentation

We haven’t seen any issues regarding deliverability. We’re using Mailcoach as a backend for an extensive blogging network with API based tags and segments allowing several blogs to co-exist on a single list. Using their tags and segmentation features has been effective, reportable, and painless. We’re bundling the data into an external database with essential stats per send, this allows the executive team to get a high-level view of the posts being published and the overall reach of the blogs.

4. Affordable Pricing

Compared to some other email marketing platforms, Mailcoach is one of the most budget-friendly offerings, especially when you consider they have an out-of-the-box API offering and cloud-based sending. It’s an attractive option for small and medium-sized businesses.

5. Automation

Mailcoach has a nifty automation tool built into the platform. We used the tool for basic automations but that’s the point, if you need an advanced automation platform, you’re better off working with one of the larger platforms like ActiveCampaign or an automation tool like Zapier or N8N.

The Cons:

1. Limited Templates

Third-party builders like DesignModo’s PostCards as going to be key to help you generate HTML for your emails using Mailcoach’s template process. This is clearly a restriction of the service, making it less user-friendly for individuals who aren’t used to working in HTML. It would be helpful for new users to have a library of 100 or so readymade templates, similar to what Mailchimp and other platforms provide.

2. Learning Curve for Self-Hosting

If you choose to self-host Mailcoach, which again, we stayed on the cloud offering. There might be a slight learning curve, especially if you’re not familiar with server management. However, as part of the Laravel platform, it should be easy for an experienced developer to navigate the process.

3. Advanced Automation Features

While Mailcoach covers the basics of email marketing automation, it might lack some of the advanced automation features that larger, more established platforms offer. This could be a consideration if you have complex automation needs.

4. Contact Fields

Contact fields are limited in the system to email and name. If you need to add extra information, Mailcoach recommends adding data inside the email address itself via “+” additions. This is a clever work around but we decided to not make any field customizations to keep our email address list clean.

Conclusion

I highly recommend using Mailcoach. It’s Email Platform will probably save your business money and the tool just works. It’s especially great if you have a tech savy developer handy. Mailcoach offers an excellent balance of affordability, control, and user-friendliness. It’s a strong contender for small businesses that don’t want to pay out the nose for basic email marketing needs. However, the decision ultimately depends on your specific requirements and preferences.
